Brief overview of our new UConn-based website:

http://gema.business.uconn.edu

Members have an intranet site at http://gema.business.uconn.edu/intranet/. There is now link to it on the main navigation menu. We will have member profiles setup this coming weekend with instructions on how to fill out your profile so that others may see it. Since our club is across multiple campuses, it’s a great opportunity to introduce yourself to your fellow club members through your profile.

The new club email is also up and running. You may direct of your inquiries to Pete or Susan directly, but you can also now send them to gema@business.uconn.edu.

Blogging & Digital Marketing Strategy

Every member can contribute to the blog. Digital Marketing Strategy tactics testing and implementation. Both contributions are great resume items for club involvement.

MBA MEC Feedback Project

Guanwei “Rachel” Tao is leading the feedback project for the MBA MEC 2016 Conference – April 8th 2016 http://www.mbamec.com. Her proposal to be presented to the Assistant Dean is ready to go and will be pitched next week. We hope to fully fund everyone attending the conference and, if there’s enough interest, to reserve a bus to take us there for the day. It is a single day event, so we’ll leave in the morning and be back late at night to the Hartford GBLC, stopping by the Stamford campus along the way.

Alumni Outreach & Directory Project

It’s just a spreadsheet of potential contacts and speakers now, but the foundation has been laid for our new VP of Outreach position. Please contact Pete directly to hop on board this project. It’s a large effort, but has the potential to substantially increase job placement in the entertainment and media industries through our alumni who already hold those positions

Storytelling Workshop Announcement

On March 24th, we’ll be holding a storytelling workshop and hold a brief membership meeting afterwards. The GFA (Graduate Finance Association) is planning an improv presentation event for April 1st. This workshop will walk you through storytelling structure for different amounts of time. You’ll learn the building blocks to a good story, no matter how much time you’re given to tell it.

The location is still to be determined. One other option is to hold one at the Hartford GBLC on the 24th and repeat the event in Stamford on the 25th. Email us if you are interested in attending this event.

Guest Speakers

We ask that all members send a guest speaker wishlist of 5 people they would like to hear from in the entertainment and media space. We’ll be setting up guest speakers through electronic and in-person conversations. Please submit your guest speaker requests by the end of Spring Break so we can get moving on this front.

Filmmaking Equipment

Several members have expressed interest in documentary filmmaking and making equipment available within the school to document our work in school, create documentary project proof-of-concept pieces, as well as for GEMA projects or to record speakers who join us. Susan and Pete would offer workshops to teach GEMA members how to use this equipment. Right now, we’re collecting member project pitches (one paragraph) to justify acquisition of the equipment to the administration. If this happens to be something you’ve been waiting for, let us know!
